Cookie dough ingredients

Unsalted butter – Use regular unsalted butter of any brand. This adds richness to the cookie dough.
White sugar – Also referred as sugar, caster sugar, or granulated sugar. This sweetens up the cookie dough.
Brown sugar – This also adds sweetness but in addition to that it adds moisture and softness to the cookie dough.
Vanilla extract – In my opinion, any dessert is incomplete without vanilla extract :). Use just 1/2 teaspoon. It adds nice, and sweet aroma to the dough.
All-purpose flour – This is the base of our recipe. Use any brand plain flour available in the pantry.
Baking soda – Just 1/4 teaspoon. Adds that authentic flavor to the cookie.
Salt – As always, adding just a pinch of salt will not make your dessert salty. Instead, it will elevate the taste.
Mini chocolate chips – As we are making small cookie dough balls, mini chocolate chips works best here. But if you do not have it handy, use regular sized chocolate chips.
Coating ingredients

Chocolate chips – Used to coat the cake pops. This gives a shiny look and smooth finish.
Oil – Helps to thin out the chocolate so that cake pops are coated nicely. Check out the alternatives mentioned in substitutes.
Chocolate chips – Used for garnishing to replicate the Starbucks cake pop’s look.
Any substitute?
Sugar – Monk fruit sweetener can be used as a substitute for sugar, and brown sugar sweetener can be used instead of brown sugar.
Semi-sweet chocolate – Replace it with Wilton’s chocolate candy melts or any pure chocolate that is used for baking. why? because it is easy to melt, whereas semi-sweet chocolate chips are not.
Oil – Replace it with Crisco shortening or Wilton’s EZ dipping aid which is specifically used for making cake pops.
Sprinkles – To replicate the Starbucks cookie dough cake pops, I have used chocolate chips. Feel free to use your favorite sprinkles or ones that match your theme.

Starbucks cookie dough cake pop (step-by-step) recipe

- Heat treat the flour in the microwave (microwave for 30 seconds, fluff up using a fork and repeat one more time). Mix the heat-treated flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Add the butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla to a large mixing bowl. Using electric beaters, beat until creamy, about 3 minutes.
- Add sifted flour to the butter mixture. Mix until combined.
- Stir in the mini chocolate chips and form a cookie dough. Cover with plastic wrap and chill the cookie dough for some time.

- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a medium-sized cookie scoop, take the small cookie dough portion, roll it into the balls, and place them on the lined baking sheet. Repeat for all cookie dough. Put the baking sheet into your fridge for 15 minutes.
- Dip the end of a cake pop stick 1/4 inch into the melted chocolate and then insert it into a cookie dough ball. Repeat with the remaining cookie dough balls. (Melt the chocolate in a small bowl for 30 seconds. Stir and continue microwaving, with 30-second intervals until they are completely melted. Add in the coconut oil or any flavorless oil if needed to adjust the consistency.)
- Freeze the balls again for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Now take one cookie dough ball and dip into melted chocolate, making sure it is completely covered with chocolate. Let the excess chocolate drip back down to the bowl. Gently tap the stick to help remove excess chocolate.

- Place the cookie dough pops upside down and immediately add chocolate chips so that they stick to the cookie pops. Refrigerate for 15 to 20 minutes.
- Serve once the chocolate is hardened.
How to serve?

Storing and freezing instructions for the Starbucks cookie dough cake pop
I do understand that you may have some leftovers, or you deliberately want to make them ahead of time, so you can concentrate on other things on the day of the celebration.
You can either store them at room temperature or in the refrigerator or freeze them.
Storing instructions
At room temperature – Store it in an airtight container or individual plastic bag once the chocolate is hardened. Make sure you are storing them in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Add a layer of parchment paper in between layers.
They stay ok for up to 3 to 4 days,
In the refrigerator – Place the final product in an airtight container or Ziplock bag and refrigerate for up to one week.
Freezing instructions
Freeze – Once the chocolate is fully set, place them on a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper and freeze them for a couple of hours or until the chocolate hardens. Remove from freezer and store in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag.
They can stay ok for up to 2 months.
Thawing instructions
Thaw it overnight in the refrigerator or directly on the kitchen counter for a couple of hours, just like you would do to any other cake,
Variations
Starbucks cookie dough cake pops are nothing but cookie dough dipped in real chocolate, and garnished with chocolate chips. Feel free to experiment with different mix-ins or toppings. These are some of my favorites.
Toppings variations
- Different sprinkles – Use chocolate sprinkles or any other colorful sprinkles instead of chocolate chips.
- Chopped nuts – Garnish the cake pops with your favorite coarsely chopped nuts.
Mix in variations
- M&M’ candies – Add the same amount of chopped m & m candies instead of chocolate chips and mix in the cookie dough. Use any of your favorite M&M’s candy flavor.
- Sprinkles – Add your favorite sprinkles, like I have used while making funfetti cookie dough, and make the cookie dough.
Secret tips to make the Starbucks cookie dough cake pop

- Use real chocolate – For best results, use real chocolate which you get in the baking aisle of any grocery store and on Amazon. Strict no no to the compound chocolate or ready to eat chocolate (available in candies section)
- Do not skip oil – Do not forget to add oil or dipping aid in melted chocolate for that flowy consistency. It should not be too thick, otherwise you will have a hard time coating with it.
- Do not skip the freezing – Do not forget to freeze the cookie dough cake pops (at least for 30 minutes) as and when needed (check out the step-by-step recipe). They need to be hardened before dipping them in melted chocolate. Soft balls will fall off from the stick. So, skipping is not an option :).
- Garnish immediately – As soon as the cookie dough pop is dipped in chocolate, garnish them with chocolate chips immediately.
- Melt the chocolate if required – Chocolate temperature and consistency will change after coating some of the frozen cookie pops. If that happens, just melt it in the microwave again.
