Tiramisu is a layered coffee-flavored Italian dessert. It is made by dipping lady fingers into coffee, alternating with mixture of mascarpone cheese and heavy whipping cream. This recipe of eggless tiramisu can be made quickly in just 15-20 minutes and it requires no baking or cooking.
This recipe is little bit different than the traditional tiramisu recipe. This tiramisu recipe is completely eggless, contains no alcohol and no-bake dessert. So, if you are uncomfortable to use eggs or if your kid is allergic to egg, this is the perfect recipe for you. But, please make sure the lady fingers are using are eggless too.
I ate this dessert for the first time after I shifted to US. It was served at “Campania” restaurant in a martini glass. It was looking so delish and of course it was just melting in mouth. I have also eaten this in olive garden and in “Buco DI Bepo” restaurant. It is served in big ceramic bowl in “Buco di Bepo” and it is supposed to serve the family of four but I can eat the whole bowl on my own. I love this dessert to that extend 😊.
Later I moved to Canada and found out that none of this restaurant’s chain were in Canada. We explored many Italian places specifically for tiramisu 😊. But I could not taste the same tiramisu which I used to get in USA. Also, so I decided to make my own tiramisu. I have tried both versions, eggless and traditional tiramisu recipe. Both tastes amazing and for both recipes, I would recommend making it a day in advance. Flavors come out really well if you make and keep it for 18-24 hrs. You can check my traditional tiramisu recipe here.
They are hard but it turns soft when dipped in liquid. I always bought my lady fingers from amazon.
This is used to deep our lady fingers. Use plain coffee and just stir it in hot water.
Soak each individual finger for 4-5 seconds and put it in serving plate.
This is the base ingredient of our recipe. If you do not have mascarpone cheese, you can use cream cheese or combination of cream cheese and sour cream.
Use any brand heavy whipping cream with fat percentage not more than 35%.
As I always say, use pure vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste.
Use plain white granulated sugar.
Our tiramisu is incomplete without cocoa powder. This is used to dust on top of our layered tiramisu. You can use any unsweetened cocoa powder, either dutch processed or natural cocoa powder.
Ladyfingers are low density sponge cake biscuits shaped like a large finger. They are hard but when becomes soft like sponge cake when dipped in liquid. Pour your coffee in big deep plate where you can completely deep your lady fingers. Soak each individual finger fore 4-5 seconds and put it in serving plate.
If you wish to whip up your whipping cream properly it is always a good idea to use chilled cream, chilled bowl and chilled whisk. If it is not chilled, it will not whip up properly. There is an alternative solution to this. Whip up your cream by placing the bowl on lots of ice.
It is important to keep your cheese cool otherwise it may turn into butter.
Please refer my recipe card to know the details about calorie and nutritional information.
As this contains cheese and whipping cream, it is always stored in the fridge.
I will not recommend freezing this. Freezing and thawing will change its texture.
I will not recommend freezing the tiramisu. This contains whipping cream, so, freezing and thawing will surely change its consistency.
It is always served cold by sprinkling cocoa powder on it.
I have tried this recipe with cream cheese as well for those who doesn’t easily find mascarpone cheese or if it is sold at very high price.
Replacing mascarpone cheese with one brick (8oz) of cream cheese will work. But if you replace mascarpone with 7oz of cream cheese and 1 oz of sour cream, the taste will be very near to mascarpone cheese.
Tiramisu is a classic coffee-based Italian dessert. So, if you are concerned about caffein used in recipe, you can substitute that with decaf coffee but I won’t recommend to skip coffee altogether. I promise, you will not be disappointed with flavors. You will enjoy the same taste.
Please make sure to dip lady fingers in coffee for few seconds only. If you over soak them, your layers may fall.
Over to you🙂 I urge you to try this out and let me know how this turns out for you in the comments! I really love hearing from you, and your feedback is very much important to me.
