Peanut Butter Truffles Ingredients

Here is a list of ingredients you will need to make yummy peanut butter truffles. You can find the detailed recipe card at the bottom of this post for the complete list with their exact quantities.

  • Peanut Butter - As the name suggests, peanut butter is the main ingredient in this recipe. Peanut butter usually comes in two forms. First is creamy and smooth version and second is creamy and chunky version. You can use any based on your liking but keep in mind that crunchy will have crushed peanuts in it. So, it will give different mouthfeel than creamy one. Just make sure you are using the creamy one otherwise truffles will be dry.
  • Unsalted Butter - Use your favorite unsalted butter, no specific brands here. Just make sure that it is soft, at room temperature and not in liquid state or overly soft. Make sure to keep it outside for at least one hour so that it will be at right temperature.
  • Icing Sugar - Use icing sugar or confectioners sugar, both are same. If you do not have it handy you can make powdered sugar at home. This helps in binding everything together.
  • Vanilla Extract - This is my favorite ingredient. Almost all of my dessert recipes have vanilla extract added in it :). Use regular vanilla extract or pure vanilla extract, choose based on your liking.
  • Semi Sweet Chocolate - Use any semi sweet chocolate for this. You can also use dark chocolate if you like but strict No No to white chocolate as it will be way too sweet.
  • Oil - This is required to thin out the chocolate. You can also use Wilton's candy melts ez this. Avoid using any flavored oil as it will change the truffle flavor.

Success tips to make it best every time

  • Use good quality chocolate - For the best results, use good quality chocolate. I have tried these with semi sweet chocolate and dark chocolate. I would not recommend to use white chocolate at all. Truffles will become too sweet to enjoy.
  • Use oil (flavorless) - If you just use melted chocolate then it will be too thick and truffles will not be coated properly. Add oil or Wilton's candy melts ez thin to thin out the chocolate for even coating.
  • Room Temperature Ingredients - This recipe requires mixing of all ingredients together and then roll in to small balls. For this, make sure that, all the ingredients are room temperature otherwise mixing will be difficult.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffles - FAQ's

  • Can I use crunchy butter? Yes you can use crunchy butter but keep in mind that it's texture and mouthfeel will be little different. Also, make sure to use creamy version of crunchy peanut butter.
  • Why are my truffles not coating properly? If chocolate is too thick it will not coat properly. Add oil to thin out the chocolate and try again.
  • Why are my truffles too soft? If your butter is overly soft or peanut butter is too warm your truffles can become soft. Just put the mixture in refrigerator for 15-20 minutes and try rolling them again. If you are in hurry you can pop it in freezer for 5-10 minutes and try again.
  • Why my truffle mixture is not coming together? If you add too much icing sugar or less butter then it can become crumbly. Measure the ingredients using weighing scale for perfect peanut butter truffles every single time.
  • Can I make this ahead of time? Absolutely. This is the perfect dessert to make it ahead of time and keep yourself free when guests are around.
